A Weekly Educated Movie Recommendation by Shaun Smith

I decided to go a little unconventional for this week’s pick in an attempt to find a movie that I’m pretty sure most people haven’t seen before.

The Constant Gardener is a dramatic thriller that was released in a small number of theaters back in 2005 to high critical acclaim.

The film is based off the 2001 John le Carre novel by the same name (another le Carre adaptation can be seen in last year’s spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, highly recommended by me).

As with most of le Carre’s novels, The Constant Gardener is filled with mystery, cover-ups, and intrigue.

The film is directed by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, not a household name by any stretch but his previous work may sound familiar.

Meirelles also directed the highly acclaimed City of God and the experimental thriller Blindness
